This is not theater for spectacle.
This is theater for the ancestors.
For the girls who were silenced behind white paint.
For the ones who were watched, used, and discarded.
For the voice behind the mask, who never stopped breathing.
This is not your script anymore.
This is ours.
Spring 2022
In 2020, when the pandemic hit, one of the activities that provided me with support was Theater Eclectic directed by Phil Levien. It was a way of taking power back, in that, in High School, my teacher, Tallant Smith, expressed I was too short to act, and life took me other directions. I believe it super helpful for promoting harmony in the world for all of us to simply do what brings us joy and happiness. So, I engage to cultivate well-being in my body.

Throughout my life, there have been opportunities to engage with actors. While at UCSB, I took a movement for actors class with Charles Donlon. He thought, given my skill, that I had worked as a professional and invited me to participate with his professional company which used actors from the theater program there at UCSB. Beautiful experience. It was his words that guided the direction I would take. One day, after rehearsal, he stopped and looked at me, and said, what are you doing (I was an economics major)? You were born for this. It sunk in deep, and I realized, there was truth in this, that I was an artist. This led to an adventure abroad, selling all I had at the moment, to go to a theater school in Switzerland, Scuola Dimitri, for summer courses, and engaged with actors in an improvisation class, and also a Commedia Del Arte Class. While at Cal Arts, pursuing my MFA, there was ample opportunity

Spring of 2021
A one act play as a part of Theater Eclecticʻs Fall adventures. The play was written and directed by myself. I returned to acting, after a long hiatus (since High School) as an expression of taking my power back, in that, my High School teacher at that time, Tallant Smith, told me I was too short to be an actress. NEVER let the words of someone stand in the way of engaging with what brings you joy! Love this community.

Fall of 2020
This was my first one act play, and initially, I wasnʻt able to find any interested players, so I decided to play all the characters myself. Initially it was indicated it was too long for the project, but once the finished project was shared, the work was included in the Fall work. It was so, so, so much fun to do!

In June of 2022, I took a break from acting, when the community was going back to in person. My body wanted to continue to hibernate. I am feeling a draw back to this, and hope to engage, soon, with acting workshops at least. So happy to be alive. I also have a one act play in mind, Hoʻoponopono in the Sky.
My first project with Theater Eclectic, I came late to the process, and played the role of Peaseblossom. So fun!
In the next session with this community I was honored to direct a play written by an old friend, Henry Blake.
In this project, I had an amazing time playing a role in Ever Young.
